PowerSync Programmable Loads (PSLs) from Sifos provide many of the features of the PowerSync Analyzer (PSA-3000) but without certain resources that are essential for PSE Conformance testing.  Common applications for Programmable Loads include PSE system power management analysis, packet traffic testing with PoE loads, PSE power subsystem QA and reliability analysis, PSE management interface testing, industry certification testing of PSEs, and manufacturing test of PSE’s.

Sifos offers a wide array of Programmable Loads covering many price-performance levels.  All Programmable Loads feature the ability to emulate 802.3at and 802.3bt powered devices (PDs) drawing user-specified power levels up to 100W per port.  All instruments are managed with a LAN interface and the same PSA host software environment as utilized by the PSA-3000.

    Features of PSL Analyzers

    The PSL-3424M Load-Multiplexer is Sifos’ lowest cost programmable load. It is scalable with configurations of 8 ports (PSE connections), 16 ports, and 24 ports.

    The PSL-3424A is a moderate cost programmable offering expansion features for hybrid 2-pair/4-pair Live PD Emulation and for PSE Power Management analysis.  The PSL-3424L adds flexible 802.3at/802.3bt LLDP emulation and analysis, further extending Live PD Emulation and Power Management Analyzer features.

      The PSL-3000 is the most scalable programmable load in terms of port count and also offers a feature license for 802.3at/802.3bt LLDP emulation and analysis as well as Live PD Emulation and Power Management Analysis for 2-Pair, 30W PSE’s.

          Power Management Analyzer Suites

          While most PSE ports are part of multi-port PSE, behaviors of such systems of PSE ports are beyond the scope of IEEE 802.3 specifications.  Sifos offers two fully automated analyzer suites that uniquely characterize PSE port administration and power management behaviors including PD admittance policies, PSE capacity management, LLDP policies, and powering stability.  Each of these suites are built upon Live PD Emulation, a feature that enables each test port to independently and continuously emulate user-described PD’s.

          The optional LLDP Emulation feature allows a PSA-3000, PSL-3424L, or PSL-3000 test port to behave just like an 802.3at or 802.3bt PD that uses LLDP to convey its power demands.  802.3 PoE LLDP is a special variant of LLDP protocol that involves handshakes and protocol timing between a PSE and a PD.

            The optional PSL-3424-QT feature license opens up two important productivity tools in the PSL-3424A and PSL-3424L instruments.  PSL-3424 Quick Test is a fully automated PSE functional test covering between 2 and 8 PSE ports in a test cycle with average test times on the order of 10 seconds per port tested.  The Chained Data Test user interface allows rapid construction and verification of test setups used in “snaked data path” testing of PSE’s with user specified loads and optional LLDP power negotiation on each test port.
